Great Midwestern Cafe started with a simple observation: the best parts of a day aren't the big events — they're the spaces in between. The morning coffee before the rush. The lunch break that turns into an hour. The after-work drink with people you actually want to see.

We opened our doors on Robert D Ray Drive to fill that gap in Des Moines — a place that doesn't force you to choose between a serious coffee shop and a loud bar. Here, the espresso machine and the cocktail shaker share the same counter, and the same warmth greets everyone who walks in.

We didn't set out to be two things. We set out to be one thing — a good place to be, at any hour.
